Truly a magical place. I really enjoyed my stay, the workshop, the food, the beautiful scenery and the connections I made. Initially I was taken back by no tv’s in the room, and no WiFi or any service at all while in the rooms but I think that’s the point of the experience to really sit with self, get well acquainted with self and take care of self.
I attended a workshop lead by Erika Gagnon and it was everything by I needed! The baths were nice and I did not feel judged in anyway when entering nude. The food is amazing I had the best chimichurri steak I’d had in my life so far! I’d highly recommend this place and highly recommend you read their website on what to bring. A flashlight was necessary as the property is extremely dark after sunset. There’s a ton of spiders which I happen to be afraid of but by the end of the trip I didn’t mind them that much.

Unforgettable serene place with lots of delicious plant-based options for vegans. A spot to reset, rethink, and recharge. It’s a bit remote so a drive can be long but so worth it.

One of the most incredible, special places. The land here is simply magical— if you add that to the not-to-be missed baths and a great workshop, you have an unforgettable experience.

I finally got to visit Esalen after years of trying to make it work.

I can't remember the last time I felt so present. Something about this place demands you to be in the moment. Perhaps it's the beautiful views, interesting/engaging folks around every corner, incredible food, and... lack of cell signal?

I took a mindfulness course and it was a serious "level up" for my daily meditation practice. I am so grateful for my ability to visit, and hope to return again one day.

Following a sudden career transition- I was in need of a week to clear my head, meditate, do yoga, be around like-minded, fellow seekers and reset. Esalen helped me achieve this in many ways.

The grounds are truly jaw dropping and gorgeous. The baths were magical with the natural heated spring water. The massage offering was wonderful and much needed. The other guests were all open and friendly and the views from my premium room were incredible.

I arrived expecting a retreat center so I wasn't surprised to see the sparsely appointed room and tiny shower. I also expected a cafeteria style dining hall rather than a sit down restaurant. All good! I'm sure some expect a more hotel like experience- this is not that.

I was on a solo/ self-guided retreat alongside ten other folks. All of us there for various reasons. I appreciated the light programmatic options and that there was zero pressure to attend or not attend. During the week there was a massage training workshop and a women's retreat and those folks would pop in and out of the shared programming as their schedules allowed. I certainly left with a couple of new friendships and a much clearer head on my shoulders.

JJ, one of the teachers, was warm, good humored and wise. I enjoyed my time with him and certainly left with new insights about life from him.

On a more practical note: I also appreciated the free Tesla and EV chargers available for guests. Super helpful and pretty easy to access despite a full campus of Tesla driving guests.

Also- I'm glad I brought layers of clothing as they recommended. The weather was perfect - low 70's during the day but cool and damp at night being right on the water. This is why there are hoodies!

A few negatives:
They need to work on their cleaning- my room was littered with the last guest's hair- an easy thing to remedy if the crew is trained and given the right tools.

I'm vegetarian and only one lunch or dinner the whole week didn't feature Tofu as the main option. I am glad I brought snacks.

Despite their website saying no kids under 16, three of the five days I was on campus there were kids running around. Not quietly in the corner- I'm talking racing through the dining commons and bath house being loud and energetic. A huge reason I chose Esalen was to find tranquility so it was really disappointing to see that there are children running around on a frequent basis- even at the baths! When another solo-traveller brought this up to the Esalen team during the orientation, we were assured that it was an "off day" due to the Memorial Day Holiday and kids are "never around". Apparently he was too optimistic.

I hope that in the future Esalen will work on diversity and inclusion. There's a whole world of people who would benefit from this experience besides white women in leggings. It will require direct outreach to communities that may not resemble the staff or leaders at this organization. I hope they will be brave and figure out this key component to make Esalen stronger and the world a better place.

I spent a weekend there doing the self-guided option and sharing a room with two other women. The grounds are breathtaking. The food was delicious and very vegan friendly. Tons of veg options (I’m vegetarian) and one meat option at the end of the buffet each meal. The people were friendly (staff and guests alike). Big fan of JJ!

My one and only critique is that especially in light of there being no price difference between self-guided and the workshops that there be more things to do (yoga!) for the self-guided individuals.

I have read about Esalen and wanted to visit for years. I finally got the chance and was not disappointed. In fact I fell in love. This place is peaceful, sacred, magical, rejuvenating and worth every penny. I would give almost anything to have daily access to hot springs tubs and pool like that and with that view!! The food was decent, I felt they could take it up one notch at least. But I’m picky. The landscape, the buildings, the view, the wildlife, all were spectacular. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. If I could afford it, I’d go every year.
